  1. How fun!

For me, art is something that makes me feel more me. I feel less like myself when I’m unable to create because art is just part of my identity. I’ve been drawing for as long as I remember so I suppose it’s just in the fibre of my being now. In the year in which I was emigrating and all my possessions were in shipping crates, it underlined how much I need art in my life. During all of that tumultuous change, all that stress, not having art as an outlet, as a means to express myself, as a way of soothing my soul and calming me by providing focus and an opportunity for “me time”, certainly took its toll. As soon as I was able to start creating art again, I began to feel more settled in myself again. In short, art is essential to me.

  2. This is very exciting. I’m a mixed media artist, and I find that art enriches my life in numerous ways. I love telling a story through collage. I love breaking out the paints and playing inspiring music and allowing the mystery to unfold on the canvas or art journal. I find answers to issues I’m going through and learn a lot about myself. I also experience the joy of making art for others, and I can speak in their life as an act of prayer or healing, sharing the message Papa God lays on my heart. Art is my passion, my wings, and infuses every part of my being. And it helps me find my way in a larger community of artists and generous souls. Blessings!!!

  3. I craft, including art journaling, as a stress reliever. I have a high pressure job and my doctor gave me a choice of prescriptions or a hobby. At this point, the prescriptions would have been cheaper but the hobby is way more fun! 🙂

It started as therapy and is now is pure joy. I retired this year and starting in January have been gobbling up blog posts, videos, FB groups and trips to Michael’s. The transformation has been incredible. I am still learning so many techniques. So I do art journalling, SMASH books, Whimsical Lettering, Zentangle, and whatever else floats my boat. The freedom this has provided is absolutely awesome. I have graduated from children’s art supplies to quality products. Still a bit nervous when I pull out the really good paper. Really looking forward to 2015 when the training wheels come off.

I have always scrapbooked to preserve memories for my kids. Now that they are adults with husbands/fiances, jobs and homes, I am scrapping less. I thought I would give Mixed media a try and from there have grown into art journaling and even making canvases. I am sometimes my own worst enemy – feeling my work is awful, etc. I want to play and have fun! I want to take advantage of every opportunity to learn more and feed my creative side.

Oh wow, I have been through so much in the past year alone and art has been my therapy. My working through some difficult emotions and then the finished art piece is such a blessing then to share with others. Thanks for allowing me to share in this great challenge and chance for the workshop. I am happy for whoever wins.

I began focusing on art to help with the grief of losing my mother. So many emotions, I needed something to allow me to express all of them. I’m always surprised when I really let go, how much my art shows how I’m feeling, even without words. Thank you so much for the opportunity to win! 🙂

Hi, I took my first art journaling peek in 2013. It was a lifesaver. Going through several big losses and depression it helped me realize I had so much to do and love. It helped pull me up and out. Art truly does heal. I observed 2014 DLP and am now ready to participate. Still shy about showing work but I am doing art and that makes me so happy and inspired.

As for having a creative outlet. . .I make jewelry and very recently stumbled into the art journaling world. Having these outlets proves to me that I am a creative person and adds so much color and fun to my life. It lets me get out of my head and keeps my fidgety hands busy! 🙂 Thanks again.

Art journaling for me is what meditation is for many people. I am able to zone out and let everything else go and refresh. After a little time spent with my art, I feel like I’ve just had the best power nap!

I would love to be able to do some of the workshops!

  16. art journaling is an outlet for me cos’ my hubby has bi-polar and i’m usually a ‘psychologist’ to him, listening and accepting him for who he is, and part absorbing his darkness. i won’t know what to do without art- it had rescued me from many bleak moments, so i can still fight the fight.

  18. This is really cool. I think that having a creative outlet-drawing, painting, scrapbook, writing, music…. all of it creates a space for me to really be myself. Creativity allows me to step back from the craziness of everyday life and refocus on what’s most important: family, friends, God. Finding that sense of belonging, and learning to love who I am and the gifts I’ve been given.

After a long delay, I finally mustered up the courage to start an art journal this summer. I started with ICAD (Index Card A Day) Doing so allowed me to be ok with making mistakes, starting over or trying new techniques. I am still doing an art piece a day and loving it. Journaling/creating frees me from my own stoic mind. It allows me to try different mediums, to be confident, to be brave. This past weekend I was in my first ever Art Show and sold two pieces~~Something I could never have imagined!

Art is simply a part of me! Finding the DLP group has been a lifesaver for me. I lost my health, my job, and my husband all in a two week period. My income plummeted with all this. I have learned and grown in my art from all the wonderful and generous artists. The happy mail is a real joy. To win this opportunity would be a real blessing. Good luck to everyone and thank you so much for including me.

  22. I’ve heard it said, art is not a hobby, it’s a way of life. This is certainly true for me. I have always been creative and have tried my hand at many things over the years. Several years ago I discovered art journalling and it soon became a way of life for me! My journal and small bag of art essentials go with me everywhere. Playing and experimenting with color, texture, composition, etc. has been so liberating and given me much more confidence in my art adventures. In addition, the community of artists involved in art journalling never ceases to amaze me with their encouragement and inspiration.

Thanks for the opportunity to win a spot for the class the A5 gals have put together. I will keep my painty fingers crossed!

Mixed Media changed my life. I was a crafter, and was looking for something more. Mixed media was the perfect solution. I could play, not have to be perfect, and use up lots of my crafting leftovers. WOW, love at first sight!!!!!! I also ended up getting a job teaching mixed media, and sharing my new found passion, to people who I would have never have met. Today, I am thankful for my new journey of pure happiness. It changed my life, and it makes me HAPPY!!!! 🙂

I have been scrapbooking and journaling since middle school. I am now in my 30’s and started to create again with my Mother when we did a Brene Brown workshop. Being creative allows me to de-stress, think about life from a different more positive angle, spend time with my Mom, and spend some quality time with myself. My Mother always urged my creativity and for that I will always be grateful. It makes me a more positive, happier, nicer, thankful and grateful person.
